Born in Moscow, Russia on June 8, 1982, Nadia is the only child of Viktor Petrov and Nadezda Ilina and how she became interested in tennis proves a fascinating story. Her parents were working full time so they needed help with someone to look after Nadia once she was out of school. Instead of taking her to daycare, Nadia would attend a local tennis club where she would play tennis with other children until her parents came to pick her up.
It was here that the love for the sport evolved. Coming from a family of professional athletes, Nadia was fortunate to be gifted with developing skills at a very early age.
